William
Hartnell only appears in the reprise at the start of part two and
with pre-recorded dialogue for the rest of the episode.
The story (and the season) ends with no next episode caption. It
finishes with shots of the Doctor and his companions over a starfield
pattern.
The first link to the past of the Doctor is revealed as he meets
a member of his own race in the series for the first time, the Meddling
Monk (although not named as a time-lord until the War
Games).
Peter Burtterworth is better known for his
roles in the "Carry-On" film series.

Episode
1 - The Doctor
clearly tells Steven that they have landed in the 11th century,
but after the wristwatch is discovered, Steven asks how it could
possibly be in the 10th century.
Episode 2-3 - The
reprise to episode 3 is completely different to the cliffhanger
in episode 2, Steven does different things to the door, and the
sheepskin rug on the bed changes completely.
